About Me and Contact

About Me
I am a 20-something, recent graduate of the University of Oregon. I first started this blog as a college student hoping to encourage other students to branch outside of pizza and boxed mac and cheese. Now, I still rely on simple recipes that produce comforting, fun food.

I grew up eating salmon, elk, and venison caught by my dad and I still reap the benefits of his skills with a fishing pole or crossbow. I like to think of myself as adventurous with my cooking, but my style is generally of the hearty, comforting variety. Whenever possible, I prefer to cook with local, organic food which, lucky for me, is so easy to do in a place like Portland!

My Camera
If you go back in time on my blog, you can see quite the evolution of my photography. I started out using my iPhone in absolutely any light. As you can imagine, my photos were not so great. Then I bumped up to a Nikon Coolpix, which is a great point-and-shoot, compact camera and I learned more about using natural light to photograph my meals. This camera now lives in my purse and I use it to take pictures of meals when we go out for dinner or other food-related adventures.

In December 2011, my incredible mother bought me a Nikon D200 and a 50mm f/1.8D lens for Christmas and now it is all I use when shooting pictures for my recipes. It has seriously changed my world as a food blogger. After taking a photography class from the lovely Lara Blair, I've begun to understand more and more about how to take good photos but am still a newbie by all means.
